Pieter Nason was probably a student of Jan Anthonisz. van Ravesteyn. In 1639 he was admitted as a master to the Guild of St. Luke in The Hague. In 1656 he founded, with other painters, a new painter’s guild, the “Confrèrie Pictura”. In 1662 he worked for William Frederick, Prince of Nassau-Dietz, stadtholder of Friesland. He later worked in the Berlin court for the “Great Elector” of Brandenburg. Upon completion of his sojourn in Berlin, he later returned to The Hague.
